Job summary

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Cardiac Stepdown/Progressive Care Unit role in Georgia. Requires 2+ years of stepdown experience, telemetry proficiency, and active GA or Compact RN license. BLS/ACLS and NIHSS certifications are required; BSN not needed.

Unit uses MEDITECH EMR with 44 beds and 12-hour day shifts, every other weekend, with potential ICU float. Responsibilities include post-surgical cardiac care, managing drips, vents not required, and patient monitoring.

Qualifications

• Active RN license (GA or Compact) required.
• Current BLS (AHA) and ACLS certifications required.
• NIHSS certification required.
• 2 years of Stepdown experience in an acute care setting required.
• BSN not required.
• Must be comfortable floating to ICU if not qualified for ICU patients.
• Copy of driver's license required for consideration.

Responsibilities

• Acute care setting in a Cardiology Stepdown Unit (4A/4B).
• 4A focuses on cardiothoracic and cardiovascular surgery patients; 4B handles smaller procedures, drips, and CHF patients.
• Telemetry monitoring and strip interpretation.
• Administers titrated drips including Cardizem, amiodarone, dobutamine, dopamine, Lasix, Bumex, Heparin, Primacor, Vaprosol.
• Manages BiPAP, CPAP, Vapotherm, and high-flow oxygen; no full ventilator management.
• Uses MEDITECH EMR; float to ICU limited to stepdown-level patients.
• Floor-specific orientation consists of 3 shifts.
• 12-hour day shifts from 7a-7p; every other weekend; holidays may be required.

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Cardiac Stepdown/Progressive Care Unit role requiring 2+ years of stepdown experience and telemetry proficiency.

Requirements

• Active RN license (GA or Compact) required
• Current BLS (AHA) and ACLS certifications required

• 2 years of Stepdown experience in an acute care setting required without exception
• BSN not required
• Preferred ability to pull pacer wires; training provided if not already proficient
• Must be comfortable with floating and potentially tasking in the ICU if not qualified for ICU-level patients
• Copy of driver's license required for consideration

Responsibilities

• Acute care setting in a Cardiology Stepdown Unit (4A/4B)
• 4A focuses on cardiothoracic and cardiovascular surgery patients, 4B handles smaller procedures, drips, and CHF patients
• Common diagnoses include POD #1 CABG, cardiovascular surgery, fem pops, arteriograms, CEA, thoracotomy, VATS, EVAR, AAA repairs, carotid endarterectomies, stents, pacemakers, ablations, AICD, CHF, afib with RVR, and chest tubes
• 44-bed unit with average census of 32-38 patients and high turnover, discharging/admitting 12-16 patients per shift on busy days
• Patient ratio of 1 nurse to 5 patients, with nurse aide ratio of 1 to 10
• 12-hour day shifts from 7a-7p
• Every other weekend required
• Must be flexible to work holidays and days surrounding holidays
• Telemetry monitoring using Phillips equipment; must be able to read and interpret strips
• Administers titrated drips including Cardizem, amiodarone, dobutamine, dopamine, Lasix, Bumex, Heparin, Primacor, and Vaprosol
• Manages BiPap, CPAP, Vapotherm, and high flow oxygen; no full ventilator management
• Uses MEDITECH EMR
• Float requirement to ICU, limited to stepdown-level patients unless ICU experience is noted on contract
• Floor-specific orientation consists of 3 shifts
• 24/7 in-house hospitalist/intensivist coverage, RT, and pharmacy support
• Dedicated PICC/IV team available
• Provide stepdown-level cardiac nursing care including monitoring, medication administration, and wound/line management for post-surgical and cardiac patients
• Unit supported by a Charge Nurse (Clinical Supervisor)
• Scrub color required: Caribbean Blue
• Dress code requires natural hair color, no fake nails or shellac, no facial piercings, and no visible tattoos
• Must reside more than 75 miles from the facility to be eligible for placement
• Previous employment with this health system within the last 12 months disqualifies candidates from placement
• First-time travelers may be considered
