American Traveler is hiring a Pediatric ICU RN for a nights position requiring at least 1 year of PICU experience and PALS certification.
- Acute care setting in a pediatric unit specializing in medically complex children (Almost Home Kids)
- 12-bed unit with all private rooms
- Nurse to patient ratio of 1:3-4
- Common diagnoses include cerebral palsy, chromosomal disorders, gastric anomalies, metabolic disorders, spinal muscular atrophy, and premature birth, with many trach/vent patients
- Nursing staff provides all respiratory treatments including vent management using LTV and Trilogy 100 vents and Nonin pulse ox
- EPIC EMR used
- 12-hour night shifts, 1900-0700, no rotation
- Weekend requirement of every other or every third weekend depending on staffing (Fri/Sat for night shift)
- Holiday coverage required on a rotational basis
- No call or standby requirement
- Floating not typical, but possible float to PICU at Children's Hospital
- Charge nurse on duty 24/7 who also takes a patient assignment
- PCT support staffed with 1 PCT overnight (2300-0700)
- APN in-house coverage M-F 0800-1700 with Medical Director on-call 24/7
- Active IL RN license required
- BLS (AHA) and PALS (AHA) certifications required
- Minimum 1 year Pediatric ICU experience required
- EPIC EMR experience preferred
- Negative drug screen required for all panels
- Provide nursing care for medically complex pediatric patients in a home-like environment
- Nurses are responsible for preparing medications as there is no on‑site pharmacy
- Any scrub color or style is acceptable
- Unit‑specific orientation consists of two 12‑hour shifts
- Candidates should have a passion for caring for children with medical complexities
