Job summary
American Traveler Staffing Professionals is seeking a Travel RN for Pediatric ICU in Charlotte, NC at a Magnet Hospital. The assignment features 36 hours per week with days and 12-hour shifts, requiring a 2-year high-acuity PICU background and an NC or compact RN license.
You'll work with EPIC EMR, support a 24-bed PICU, and may float to related units as needed. Must have BLS/PALS and pass credentialing; start date is typically 3–4 weeks from offer.
Qualifications

Responsibilities
- Provide direct patient care in a high-acuity PICU.
- Collaborate with an ICU team in a teaching Magnet hospital.
- Manage vasoactive drips and invasive lines as appropriate.
- Monitor ventilators and perform bedside procedures.
- Float to related pediatric units as needed.

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Pediatric ICU position requiring 2 years of high-acuity PICU experience and a NC or compact RN license.
- Level 1 Pediatric Trauma Center within a 247-bed teaching hospital with Chest Pain Center and Certified Stroke Center designations
- 24-bed PICU with average patient census of 21-23
- Patient population includes respiratory, trauma (including penetrating and non-accidental trauma), DKA, seizures, neurosurgical, acute/chronic renal failure, orthopedic, surgical, transplant (kidney and liver), complex medical, and blood disorder cases
- RN to patient ratios vary by acuity: 2:1, 1:1, or 1:2
- 12-hour day shifts from 0645-1915, 36 hours per week
- Weekend rotation requires working 2 Fridays, 2 Saturdays, 2 Sundays, and 2 Mondays every 6-week schedule, which may be grouped or worked separately
- No on-call requirements; if PICU census doesn't require staffing, travelers may float to PCVICU, Peds Progressive, NICU, or general Peds units
- Floating required as needed to Pediatric CVICU, NICU, Neonatal PCU, and General Peds
- Uses EPIC EMR, Alaris and Medfusion syringe pumps, Omnicell medication dispensing, and Phillips monitors
- Specialized equipment includes Belmont Rapid Infuser, Accuvein, PIV Ultrasound, Artic Sun, Camino ICP/temp monitoring device, EV-1000 Vigileo, I-stat, and Accuryn
- Centralized and bedside monitoring with no dedicated telemetry tech
- Active RN license (NC or Compact) currently in hand
- Current certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
- Minimum 2 years of strong, high-acuity Pediatric ICU experience required, with comfort in a fast-paced critical care environment
- Minimum 12 months of core work experience in the specialty area with most recent experience within the last year
- EPIC EMR experience required
- Skills required include management of critical care vasoactive drip titration, invasive lines (ART lines/CVP), ventilator and trach management, HFOV management, CRRT, chest tubes, epidurals, PCAs, sedation/analgesic drip management, Foley insertion/management, and bedside procedures with providers
- Experience with Artic Sun, EVDs, Camino device, and Belmont Rapid Infuser required
- Competency to float to Pediatric CVICU may be discussed during interview
- Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration
- Minimum 1 professional reference dated within one year, from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN
- Provide direct patient care in a high-acuity Pediatric ICU setting including complex medical, surgical, and transplant cases
- Unit support includes 24/7 charge nurse, phlebotomy, IV/VAT team, respiratory therapy, and intensivist coverage, plus in-house residents and APPs
- One CNA/Health Care Tech per day supports unit secretary duties and nursing needs, with unit secretary coverage every shift
- Orientation includes New Employee Orientation (NEO) and 2 days of departmental orientation
- Holiday expectations require working 75% of holidays, with unit requirement of working the eve and day of every other holiday while contracted
- RTO requests are subject to manager approval
- Navy scrub color required

- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
- Local candidates are not accepted; candidates must live more than 50 miles from the facility
- Returning travelers must be separated from any AHSE facility for at least 1 year after working a permanent position
