Job summary

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a PACU/Same Day Surgery position in a rural Vermont facility. Requires VT or compact license and 2+ years in Same Day Surgery, with BLS/ACLS and IV start skills. Cerner EMR used; travel nursing experience preferred.

Shift is 7:00 AM–3:30 PM, 32 hours/week with call responsibilities and occasional weekends. Admitting and discharge duties included; PACU and possible OR assistance with a focus on patient education and safe recovery.

Qualifications

• Active VT RN license required.
• Current BLS and ACLS certification (AHA).
• Minimum 2 years of Same Day Surgery experience.
• Experience in rural or outpatient facilities.
• Admitting and discharge experience required.
• Phase I and Phase II/PACU experience required.
• IV start experience required.
• Experience preparing the OR for surgery (pre-op).
• Strong assessment, IV, and patient education skills.
• PACU/ICU experience preferred.
• Travel nursing experience highly preferred.

Responsibilities

• Manage Same Day Surgery Center within a rural community hospital.
• 8-bay unit seeing up to 17 patients per day.
• Care for adult and geriatric patients (ages 16+).
• Operate in 2 ORs and 1 procedure room, outpatient focus with limited inpatient needs.
• Day shift 7:00 AM-3:30 PM; 32 hrs/week guaranteed with call.
• Call 2-3 days/week and two weekends per month.
• Role primarily PACU with possible OR assistance.
• Use Cerner EMR for documentation.
• Handle admission and discharge of surgical patients, including assessments.
• Must multitask and communicate effectively with staff and physicians.
• Strong time management and customer service skills are essential.
• Scrubs provided by hospital; travel blocks may be required.

• 2 operating rooms and 1 procedure room, primarily outpatient with limited inpatient procedures
• Day shift, 7:00 AM-3:30 PM, 32 hrs/week guaranteed with additional hours from call
• Call responsibilities 2-3 days/week and call required two weekends per month
• Role is mostly PACU but includes stepping into the OR to assist as needed
• Uses Cerner EMR
• Responsible for admission and discharge of surgical/procedure patients, including nursing admission assessments and Phase I and Phase II post-anesthesia care
• Must multitask well and communicate effectively with nursing and physician colleagues
• Strong time management and customer service skills essential
• Hospital-provided scrubs required
• Must work two holiday blocks if scheduled: Thanksgiving Day through the following weekend, Christmas Eve through Christmas Day and the following weekend, and New Year's Eve through New Year's Day and the following weekend
• Travelers may not take all holidays off
• No more than 5 days of RTO accepted, and all requests must be finalized prior to submission
• This is a rural community without public transportation, so candidates must have their own vehicle
• Candidates residing within 50 miles of the facility are not eligible for this assignment
• 8 hours of non-billable orientation required
