Job summary

American Traveler is seeking a night shift RN for a Medical ICU position in New York. Must hold an active NY RN license with BLS/ACLS; CCRN preferred. At least 1 year MICU experience required; BSN not required. Responsibilities include caring for cardiac arrest, sepsis, neuro surgical cases, DKA and more on a 12-hour night shift.

Unit features 26 beds, 1:1-2 nurse-to-patient ratio, Allscripts charting, 24/7 RT support, and a focus on flexible scheduling while maintaining patient safety.

Qualifications

• Active NY RN license required.
• BLS and ACLS certification required; CCRN preferred.
• Minimum 1 year of MICU experience required.
• BSN not required.

Responsibilities

• Acute care setting in a Level 2 trauma hospital.
• 26-bed Medical ICU with ~14 nurses per shift.
• Nurse to patient ratio 1:1-2, occasionally 1:3 during short staffing.
• Night shift schedule, 12-hour shifts from 7pm-7:30am.
• Charting completed in Allscripts.
• RTs available 24/7 to manage respiratory equipment; nurses administer breathing treatments.
• Centralized tele monitoring at the nurses station; nurses must independently read and interpret tele strips.

Job description

American Traveler is hiring a night shift RN for a Medical ICU position requiring at least 1 year of MICU experience and NY RN licensure.

Requirements

• Active NY RN license required
• BLS and ACLS certification required; CCRN preferred
• Minimum 1 year of MICU experience required
• BSN not required
• Must be able to titrate all drips including pressors, sedation, paralytics, antiarrhythmics, and insulin
• Must be able to independently interpret tele strips

Responsibilities

• Acute care setting in a Level 2 trauma hospital
• 26-bed Medical ICU with approximately 14 nurses per shift
• Nurse to patient ratio of 1:1-2, occasionally 1:3 during short staffing
• Common diagnoses include cardiac arrest, sepsis, neuro surgical cases, DKA, induced hypothermia, GI bleed, and angioedema (no trauma cases)
• Night shift schedule, 12-hour shifts from 7pm-7:30am
• Charting completed in Allscripts
• Charge nurse does not carry a patient assignment and responds to codes/RRTs
• RTs available 24/7 to manage respiratory equipment (CPAP, BiPAP, vents, trachs); nurses administer breathing treatments
• Centralized tele monitoring at the nurses station; nurses must independently read and interpret tele strips
• PCT support available: 3 on day shift, 2 on night shift
• Fellows/residents in house 24/7; attendings not on-site 24/7
• Weekend requirement of at least 2 weekends per 4-week schedule (Saturday and Sunday)
• May be required to participate in holiday rotation
• No call or standby requirements
• Travelers float first, limited to stepdown units at a 1:3-4 ratio
• Unit-specific orientation includes 2 days of classroom training and 1 day with a preceptor
• Royal blue scrub color required
• Excessive call-ins are taken seriously and may lead to termination
• Travelers are expected to remain flexible in scheduling to help fill gaps in permanent staff coverage
