Job summary

American Traveler is seeking a Night Shift RN for a Medical ICU position in Virginia. Requires Level 1 trauma teaching hospital experience, VA/compact RN license, BLS/ACLS, and Epic EMR proficiency. Travel nursing experience and 2+ years ICU critical care are expected.

Position features 3x12-hr nights, 28-bed MICU across two units, 1:2 nurse-to-patient ratio, and housing/per diem benefits typical of travel assignments.

Qualifications

• Active VA or compact RN license in hand by start date.
• BLS and ACLS certifications required; CCRN preferred.
• Minimum 2 years of recent ICU experience.
• Level 1 Trauma Center and teaching hospital experience required.
• Epic charting system experience required.
• BSN preferred.
• Skilled in ventilator management, ABG interpretation, arterial line and central line care.
• Experience with CRRT/CVVHD and renal failure management preferred.
• ICP monitoring and hypothermia protocol preferred.

Responsibilities

• Work in a 28-bed MICU across MICU3 and MICU4.
• Care for multi-system ICU patients with sepsis, pneumonia, GI bleed and organ failure.
• Patient ratio 1:2; night shift 19:00–07:30.
• 36 or 48 hours per week; every other weekend and holiday.
• Floating within scope of practice; Epic EMR experience required.
• Provide critical care nursing with close monitoring and interventions.
• Adhere to unit policies for start date, RTO, and traveler limits.

American Traveler is hiring a Night Shift RN for a Medical ICU position requiring Level 1 trauma and teaching hospital experience with a VA or compact RN license.

• Active VA or compact RN license (pending accepted, must be in hand by Wednesday before start date)
• BLS and ACLS certifications required; CCRN preferred
• Minimum 2 years of recent experience required
• Level 1 Trauma Center experience required
• Teaching hospital experience required
• Previous travel nursing experience required
• Epic charting system experience required
• BSN preferred
• Skilled in ventilator management, ABG interpretation, arterial line management, central line care, titration of cardiac and vasoactive drips, and management of dysrhythmias
• Experience with CRRT/CVVHD, acute kidney injury, and renal failure management preferred
• Experience with ICP monitoring and hypothermia protocol preferred

Responsibilities

• Work in a 28-bed Medical ICU spanning two units (MICU3 and MICU4)
• Patient population includes multi-system failure with co-morbid conditions such as sepsis, pneumonia, GI bleed, and organ failure
• Patient ratio of 1:2
• Night shift, 3x12 hours (19:00-07:30)
• Can offer 36 or 48 hours per week
• Every other weekend and every other holiday required, including 2 of the 3 winter holidays
• Back-to-back weekends off cannot be approved
• Floating required within scope of practice per facility policy
• Epic EMR experience required
• Provide critical care nursing to medically complex ICU patients requiring close monitoring and specialized interventions
• Maximum 40 hours of RTO approved per 13-week contract, must be disclosed at time of consideration
• Any vacation time between sign date and start date must be disclosed to arrange an appropriate start date
• Previous UVA permanent staff or internal/external travelers require 1-year separation and leadership approval before returning
• External travelers cannot exceed 365 total assignment days and are not eligible to return after reaching that limit
• Select units have a 50-mile travel restriction for local candidates
• First-time travelers are welcome to apply
