American Traveler, LLC. is hiring a Med/Surg Orthopedics RN for a 13-week night shift assignment.

The unit is a 34-bed surgical specialty focused on musculoskeletal care including total joints, fractures, and spine surgeries. You will work nights, 3x12-hour shifts, with every other weekend and rotating holidays, collaborating with surgeons and therapy teams to ensure timely mobilization and discharge planning.

Qualifications

• Active RN license in North Carolina or a compact state.
• BLS certification required.
• ACLS certification may be required for some units, with training provided if needed.
• 2+ years of RN experience required.
• 1 year of acute care/inpatient hospital experience preferred.
• Experience with post-operative care, pain management, neurovascular assessments, and early mobilization protocols.

Responsibilities

• Work on a 34-bed surgical specialty unit focusing on musculoskeletal care and operative and non-operative management.
• Handle cases such as total joint replacements, fracture repairs, and spine surgeries.
• Maintain a fast-paced, throughput-driven environment with emphasis on same-day or next-day mobility and discharge readiness.
• Collaborate with orthopedic surgeons, physical and occupational therapy, and care management to support patient progression.
• Assess discharge needs and communicate plans with patients and families using cultural competency and active listening.

American Traveler is hiring a Med/Surg Orthopedics RN with 2+ years of acute care experience and a NC or compact RN license for a 13-week night shift assignment.

Requirements

• Active RN license in North Carolina or a compact state
• BLS certification required
• ACLS certification may be required for some units, with training provided if needed
• 2+ years of RN experience required
• 1 year of acute care/inpatient hospital experience preferred
• Experience with post-operative care, pain management (including PCA and multimodal regimens), neurovascular assessments, and early mobilization protocols

Responsibilities

• 34-bed surgical specialty unit focused on operative and non-operative management of musculoskeletal conditions
• Common case types include total joint replacements (hip, knee, shoulder), fracture repairs, and spine surgeries
• Fast-paced, throughput-driven environment emphasizing same-day or next-day post-op mobility and discharge readiness
• Other surgical populations, such as urology, may be introduced to the unit
• Ideal patient ratio is 5:1
• Night shift schedule, 3x12-hour shifts per week (6:45 PM-7:15 AM)
• Every other weekend and rotating holidays required
• Deliver patient care utilizing the nursing process under the direction of a physician and interdisciplinary care team
• Collaborate closely with orthopedic surgeons, physical and occupational therapy, and care management to support patient progression
• Assess and anticipate discharge needs for patients and families
• Communicate with patients and families to develop and update plans of care using cultural competency and active listening
• Promote a safe, clean environment through standard precautions and infection control principles
• Complete annual competency assessments per documented checklists
