Job summary

American Traveler is seeking a Registered Nurse for an oncology unit in Virginia. Requires VA or Compact RN license and 2+ years inpatient medical experience. Oncology experience preferred with Level II Trauma Center exposure.

Responsibilities include pain management, chemo administration for staff-only duties, and education for patients and families. The role features a 3x12 day shift (7:00 AM–7:30 PM) with every other weekend and no on-call requirements.

Qualifications

• Active RN license (VA or Compact) required
• BLS certification required
• Minimum 2 years of inpatient medical experience required
• Oncology experience preferred
• Community hospital experience required
• Level II Trauma Center experience required
• Experience with chemotherapy administration required for staff-only duties
• Experience with neutropenic precautions and isolation precautions required
• Medication administration experience including antibiotics, antiemetics, and corticosteroids
• Epic charting experience preferred

Responsibilities

• Medical floor specializing in palliative care and oncology
• Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:6
• Patient population includes COPD, diabetic, cellulitis, pancreatitis, sickle cell, oncology, and respite/hospice cases
• Day shift schedule, 3x12 hours from 7:00 AM to 7:30 PM
• Every other weekend required
• No on-call requirements
• Floating required within medical assignments and to the ED for medical holds
• Block scheduling accommodated at manager's discretion
• Uses Epic charting system
• Provide inpatient oncology nursing care including pain management and medication tolerance/dependence assessment
• Deliver patient and family education and psychosocial support
• Facility is a Level II Trauma Center with 431 staffed beds
• Navy blue scrubs required
• Holiday RTO must be pre-approved and Christmas RTO is unlikely to be approved
• First-time travelers are welcome to apply
• Local candidates accepted at the same rate with no radius restriction
• RTO requests beyond 7 days require an equivalent extension of the assignment
• Previous Mary Washington Healthcare travelers must have a 1-year separation before returning
