Job summary

American Traveler Staffing Professionals is hiring a Med/Surg Neuro RN for a night shift travel assignment in North Carolina. The role requires 2+ years RN experience with at least 1 year in Med/Surg, a NC or Compact license, and a history of travel assignments.

The position includes 3x12 hour nights, unit orientation, and potential float to MS/Tele units. Prior stroke/neuro care and NIHSS/BLS certification are required, ACLS preferred.

• Utilize Pyxis, Epic, and SBAR charting systems.
• Complete 36 hours of unit orientation; participate in on-call or night shift rotations.

American Traveler is hiring a Med/Surg Neuro RN for a night shift position requiring dedicated Med/Surg experience and prior travel assignment history.

Details

• Medical Surgical-Neuro unit with 1:6 patient ratios
• 42 daily census across 43 rooms/beds
• Cares primarily for stroke patients, plus Neurosurgery, Epilepsy, Traumatic and non-traumatic subdural hematomas, and other Neuro diagnoses
• Unit includes a 4-bed Epilepsy Monitoring Unit (EMU), with training provided for travelers as needed
• Night shift, 3x12 hours (18:45-07:15)
• Contracts accepted for 13-26 weeks, with 36 or 48 hour options
• Every other weekend work required
• Floating required to other MS/Tele areas, potentially including COVID care units
• Uses Pyxis, Epic, and SBAR charting systems
• 36 hours of unit orientation provided

Requirements

• Active RN license (NC or Compact) required, pending license accepted at submission
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience required, including at least 1 year of direct Med/Surg experience (must appear specifically as MS in work history, not MS/Tele)
• Must have completed at least 2 successful travel contracts prior to applying
• Required certifications: BLS, NIHSS
• Preferred certification: ACLS
• Required skills: IV starts, telemetry, interpretation and management of dysrhythmias, Med/Surg Neuro experience
• Additional relevant skills include IV therapy/phlebotomy, blood product administration, central and peripheral line care, neurological and psychiatric care, CVA, intracranial bleeds, seizure disorders, spinal cord injury, substance withdrawal, traumatic brain injury, cardiac monitoring, and rapid response/code team experience
• Experience with cardiac and vasoactive drip management required; titration experience preferred
• Experience in MS/Tele, Neuro Stepdown, or PCU/DOU/IMC/Stepdown settings preferred
• EKG testing must be passed prior to start
• Two professional references from a supervisor within the past 2 years required (pending references OK at submission)

Additional Information

• Provide medical-surgical nursing care to neurological patients, including stroke, seizure, and traumatic brain injury cases
• Utilize rapid response and code teams for emergent situations
• Weekly orientation schedule provided
• Pre-start and annual online training modules required (approximately 8-10 hours for acute care roles)
• Local candidates within 50 miles accepted at a lower rate
• Previous Novant Health or New Hanover PERM/PRN/EP employees must wait 12 months before reapplying, with facility approval required
• Up to 7 days of RTO can be auto-approved if not falling on a holiday; no RTO allowed during first week of assignment
• Must work 2 of 3 major holidays
• Travel pairs allowed if assigned to different units and disclosed at submission
• First-time travelers will not be considered for this position

The $1,765 weekly pay shown in this posting, along with related figures, corresponds to the higher end of this range. Weekly travel pay includes tax-free stipends per IRS guidelines. Weekly local pay is fully taxable and therefore lower due to additional employer-paid taxes and related costs.
