American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for Neuro Intermediate Care/Stepdown in Charlotte, NC. Night shifts are 12 hours (18:45-07:15) with 36 hours weekly and 13 weeks length. Requires 2+ years of RN experience, travel background, and NC or Compact license.

Unit handles neurological and medical patients; emphasis on telemetry, ep ic charting, and a strict call-off policy. Local travel options and weekend shifts are involved.

Qualifications

Neuro stepdown/intermediate care and telemetry experience
Prior travel experience required; unit will not accept first-time travelers
Epic charting experience required
Current certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS
CCR N, TNCC, CPI certifications preferred
Must pass EKG testing prior to start
Must complete required pre-start and annual online modules
Candidates must work 2 of the 3 major holidays

Responsibilities

Provide intermediate-level nursing care to a mixed neurological and medical patient population
Maintain teamwork and meet facility behavioral expectations
Adhere to unit call-off policy
Unit orientation includes 32 hours total and two shifts after hospital orientation
Scrubs: navy blue and white
Travel pairs allowed if placed on different units
Local candidates within 50 miles accepted at lower rate

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for an Intermediate Care/Neuro Stepdown position requiring 2+ years of experience and prior travel experience.

Details

Intermediate Care unit specializing in neurological stepdown patients along with medical intermediate cases
Patient ratio of 1:4 with unit census maxing at 24 patients/beds
12-hour night shifts, 18:45-07:15, with 36 or 48 hour schedules offered
No on-call requirements
Float requirement to other intermediate areas (PCTU, Cardiac Intermediate) and critical care (ICU/Stepdown) as needed
Weekend requirement of at least 3 shifts every six weeks
Uses Pyxis, Epic, and SBAR communication systems

Requirements

Active RN license (NC or Compact)
Current certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS
CCRN, TNCC, and CPI certifications preferred
Minimum 2 years of relevant RN experience required
Neuro stepdown/intermediate care and telemetry experience required
Prior travel experience required; unit will not accept first-time travelers
Epic charting experience required
Required skills include cardiac monitoring/dysrhythmia management, TR Band, IV insulin protocols, feeding tube care, CBI, hemodialysis management, central/peripheral/PICC line care, blood product administration, heparin/PCA/thrombolytic protocols, titration of cardiac and vasoactive drips including LEVO, and management of neurological conditions such as CVA, craniotomy, TBI, and seizure disorders
Respiratory skills required including BiPAP/CPAP, ventilator care, chest tubes, HFNC, ABG interpretation, and tracheostomy care
Wound care/wound vac and isolation precaution skills required

Additional Information

Provide intermediate-level nursing care to a mixed neurological and medical patient population
Must maintain a teamwork approach and meet facility behavioral expectations in all patient and staff interactions
Strict adherence to the unit's call-off policy is required
Unit orientation includes 32 hours total: an 8-hour computer class plus two shifts of unit orientation after hospital orientation
Scrubs not provided; must wear any combination of navy blue and white
Must pass EKG testing prior to start for this specialty
Must complete required pre-start and annual online modules
Candidates must work 2 of the 3 major holidays
Up to 7 days of RTO can be auto-approved if not falling on a holiday; no RTO allowed during the first week of assignment
Travel pairs are allowed if placed on different units
Local candidates within 50 miles accepted at a lower rate
Former Novant Health or New Hanover employees must wait 12 months before reapplying as a traveler

The $1,765 weekly pay shown in this posting, along with related figures, corresponds to the higher end of this range. Weekly travel pay includes tax-free stipends per IRS guidelines. Weekly local pay is fully taxable and therefore lower due to additional employer-paid taxes and related costs.
