Travel RN – Med/Surg Float Pool
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Float Pool position supporting an ED Holding unit, requiring prior travel and MS/Tele experience.
Details
- ED Holding unit located within the Emergency Department caring for adult medical/surgical patients awaiting inpatient beds
- May care for PCU level patients in addition to MS/Tele cases
- Required to float to ED and MedSurg areas as needed
- Target ratios of 1:6 for MS/Tele or 1:4 for PCU level patients
- Night shift, 3x12 hours (18:45-7:15), 36 or 48 hours per week
- Every other weekend required
- Uses Pyxis, Epic, and SBAR communication systems
- Standard equipment including cardiac monitors and IV pumps
- 12-hour unit orientation with manager-created schedule
Requirements
- Active NC or Compact RN license (pending license/certs OK for consideration)
- BLS and ACLS certification required; NIHSS and CPI preferred
- Minimum 2 years of relevant RN experience required
- Skilled in interpretation and management of dysrhythmias, telemetry monitoring (on-unit and remote), and use of Rapid Response Teams
- Experience with colostomy care, feeding tube management, renal failure care, blood product administration, peripheral line care, phlebotomy, and PICC line management
- Proficient in heparin and insulin administration and isolation precautions
- Skilled in chest tube management (Emerson/Pleur-evac), CPAP/BiPAP, HFNC, ABG interpretation, nasal cannula, non-invasive airway management, oral suctioning, oxygen administration, and tracheostomy management
- Preferred experience with IV insulin protocols, pre/post hemodialysis management, port access, central line blood draws, starting IVs, CVA, pre/post neurosurgery, spinal cord injury, TBI, ortho trauma, total joint replacements, and wound care/wound vac
- Epic charting experience preferred
- Must pass EKG testing prior to start
- Two professional references from a supervisor within the past 2 years required (pending OK at submission)
- Current State Board of Nursing license and NURSYS verification required
Additional Information
- Care for a mixed unit with high acuity patients
- All candidates will be interviewed prior to placement due to high unit turnover
- Assigned to Storm Team and/or Hurricane Team and may be required to work during catastrophic events or mass casualty situations
- May be reassigned to other units mid-contract during centralized office consolidation
- Pre-start modules (8-10 hours for acute care roles) must be completed online prior to start and annually
- Former Novant Health or New Hanover PERM/PRN/EP employees must wait 12 months before applying and disclose employment history for facility approval
- Current travel per diem clinicians must choose either travel or per diem status, not both
- Local candidates within 50 miles accepted at a lower rate
- Up to 7 days RTO auto-approved (excluding holidays); no RTO permitted during first week of assignment
- Must work 2 of 3 major holidays
- Travel pairs allowed if on different units, with own transportation, and disclosed at submission
- Contracts available for 13+ weeks with option to extend through a hard stop of February 27, 2027
