American Traveler is seeking a Med/Surg RN for a 13-week acute care assignment in Illinois. Active IL RN license and at least 1 year of hospital experience are required. The role offers full-time shifts, with day and night coverage and travel-friendly benefits.

Responsibilities include managing a 31-bed acute care unit, IV starts, and EPIC EMR workflows. Perks include housing allowance, insurance options, and licensure reimbursement for traveling nurses.

Qualifications

• BLS (AHA) certification required.
• ACLS preferred for Charge RN role.
• 1+ year of hospital experience preferred.
• Must be able to attempt IV starts, utilizing unit resources such as phlebotomy team if unsuccessful.
• Negative drug screen required for all panels.

Responsibilities

• Acute care Medical-Surgical unit with 31 beds, both private and semi-private rooms.
• Nurse-to-patient ratios of 4-5:1 on days and 5-6:1 on nights, with surgical staffing ratios up to 1:6 (days) and 1:7 (nights).
• General medical patient population with a variety of diagnoses.
• RNs titrate Heparin drips.
• Patients may require oxygen up to 6L NC and stable BiPAP/CPAP support.
• Telemetry monitored remotely via house-wide department using Phillips equipment.
• 24-hour Charge RN and house supervisor coverage on every shift.
• Travel RNs are first to float to other units as needed.
• Uses EPIC EMR.
• Hospitalist/Intensivist coverage in house 24/7
• Respiratory Therapy in house 24/7
• Pharmacy in house 24/7, all medications prepared by pharmacy staff
• Unit orientation typically includes two 12-hour shifts with a preceptor.

• Must be able to attempt IV starts, utilizing unit resources such as phlebotomy team if unsuccessful

• Every other weekend required (Sat/Sun days, Fri/Sat nights)
• Holiday rotation required per facility policy
• No call or standby requirement
• Travel RNs are first to float to other units as needed
• Uses EPIC EMR
• Hospitalist/Intensivist coverage in house 24/7
• Respiratory Therapy in house 24/7
• Pharmacy in house 24/7, all medications prepared by pharmacy staff
• Unit orientation typically includes two 12-hour shifts with a preceptor
• Scrubs are self-provided, any color accepted except pediatric-themed scrubs
• No radius rule; local rate applies to clinicians with a permanent address within 50 miles of the facility
• COVID vaccination not required for consideration
• First-time travelers are welcome to apply
