Job summary

American Traveler is hiring an RN for a Med/Surg unit in Kentucky requiring 2+ years of med/surg experience and telemetry/post-PCI experience with a KY or compact RN license.

The position includes three 12-hour shifts (7:00 AM–7:00 PM), potential float to 3 South or PCU, and a supportive team environment with a Director, Manager, and Clinical Educator.

Qualifications

• Active KY or compact RN license required.
• BLS required, ACLS preferred.
• NIH Stroke Certification, renewed annually.
• Minimum 2 years of med/surg experience required.
• Telemetry and post-PCI experience required.
• General med/surg skills including EKG interpretation, CPAP management, and port access.

Responsibilities

• 46-bed Med/Surg unit at an acute care hospital.
• Patient ratio of 6:1.
• Unit staffed with Clinical Nurse Coordinators, RNs, LPNs, PCTs, Nurse Externs, and Unit Clerks.
• Uses GE Apex Pro Telemetry box, Hoyer lift, Sara Steady, Baxter IV pumps, iMobile, Alaris PCA IV pump, Welch Allyn Vitals machine, and Glucometer.
• Documentation via Meditech Expanse.
• Schedule includes three 12-hour shifts per week with every other weekend required.
• 12-hour shifts from 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM.
• May float to 3 South (post-surgical med/surg) or PCU to cover tele overflow.
• Telemetry monitoring and paracentesis procedures performed on the unit.
• Provide direct patient care on a busy Med/Surg unit with a diverse case mix.
• Unit fully supported by a Director, Manager, and Clinical Educator.
• Strong interdisciplinary communication and collaboration with providers.
• Team includes several travelers who have extended contracts due to positive unit culture.
• Unit uses GroupMe for team communication and recognition.
• Participates in Daisy Award nominations and staff celebrations.
• Bi-weekly unit prizes recognize exceptional teamwork and patient care.
• Dress code requires navy blue or gray scrubs; royal blue scrubs are not permitted.
• Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility; no local candidates accepted.

• Preferred experience with chest tubes, NG tubes, wound vac, drains, post-dialysis assessment, central lines, and blood transfusions
• US SSN and DOB required for consideration
• One professional reference required
• No gaps in work history exceeding 90 days within the past 12 months
