American Traveler, LLC. is seeking an experienced ICU RN for a 13-week acute care assignment in California. CA RN license and critical care skills are required, including ventilator management.

The role involves 32-bed ICU with 2:1 patient ratio, 12-hour day/night shifts, and periodic floating to Tele and ED ICU/Tele holds. Cerner EMR is used and there is in-house coverage by hospitalists and intensivists.

Qualifications

• Active CA RN license required.
• Current certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS.
• Minimum 2 years ICU experience; 3 years preferred.
• Cerner EMR experience.

Responsibilities

• Acute care ICU with 32 beds (40 licensed).
• Patient ratio 2:1; Charge Nurse has no patient load.
• 12-hour shifts: 0630-1900 and 1830-0700; every other weekend.
• Floating to Tele and ED ICU/Tele holds; first to float.
• Ventilator management and drips; read telemetry.
• In-house Hospitalist/Intensivist coverage; 24/7 RT/Pharmacy.
• Huddle and bedside reports used for handoffs.

Job description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced ICU RN with critical care and ventilator management skills for a 13-week acute care assignment requiring a CA RN license.

Requirements

• Active CA RN license required
• Current certifications: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS
• Minimum 2 years of ICU experience required; 3 years preferred
• Cerner EMR experience

Responsibilities

• Acute care ICU setting with 32 staffed beds (licensed for 40), organized in pods of 8
• Patient ratio of 2:1
• Charge Nurse role carries no patient assignment; Resource RN may take a patient assignment
• One Nurse Aide typically staffed on day shift
• 12-hour day shifts (0630-1900 and 1830-0700), every other weekend required
• Floating required to Tele and ED ICU/Tele holds, first to float
• Uses Cerner EMR
• RNs read and interpret their own telemetry strips (no monitor techs)
• Manages drips including pressors, antiarrhythmics, and sedation
• Ventilator management required
• In-house Hospitalist/Intensivist coverage, 24/7 RT and Pharmacy support
• Common diagnoses include neuro, cardiac, PCI, sepsis, ETOH, and stroke cases
• Utilizes Ventriculostomy, TBI, and Camino ICP monitoring
• Two-day unit-specific orientation including time with an ICU educator and preceptor
• Huddle report and bedside report used for handoffs
• Scrub colors: Navy Blue for RNs, Hunter Green for Nurse Aides
• No acrylic nails or gel polish allowed during the assignment
• Must be available to work 2 of the 3 major holidays and will rotate holiday coverage with core staff
• Hospital may cancel up to 4 shifts during a 13-week assignment
