Job summary

American Traveler is seeking an experienced ICU RN for a high-acuity MICU in a Level II Trauma Center in Washington. Active WA license and at least 1 year of ICU experience are required, along with BLS, ACLS, NIHSS certifications.

EPIC EMR proficiency is expected and travel-ready candidates with strong critical care skills are preferred. Responsibilities include managing complex patients, including respiratory failure and post-stroke care, with typical 2:1 ratios and 3x12 day shifts.

Qualifications

• Active WA license or compact license in hand at time of submission.
• Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications.
• Minimum 1 year ICU experience in a high-acuity unit.
• Experience with 1:2-3 patient ratios in ICU/ MICU.
• Trauma Level II hospital experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Care for medically complex, critically ill patients in MICU within a Level II Trauma Center.
• Perform bedside procedures: central and arterial line placements, chest tube insertion, rapid sequence intubation.
• Manage ventilators, titrate vasoactive meds, and interpret ABGs.
• Provide care for post-stroke patients (CVA) and multisystem organ dysfunction.
• Maintain 2:1 patient load with potential escalation to 4:1 for boarders; 1 CNA per shift.
• Utilize EPIC EMR for documentation and care coordination.

Job description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced ICU RN for a high-acuity Level II Trauma Center MICU, requiring at least 1 year of ICU experience and a WA or compact RN license in hand.

Requirements

• Active WA or compact RN license required in hand at time of submission
• Current certifications: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS
• 2 hours of stroke-specific education required annually
• At least 1 year of ICU experience required
• Prior experience with 1:2-3 patient ratios
• Trauma Level II hospital experience required
• Teaching hospital experience preferred
• EPIC charting experience required
• Skills required include IV therapy, arterial line management, blood product administration, central and PICC line care, ventilator management, ABG interpretation, continuous IV sedation, titration of cardiac and vasoactive drips, CVA/acute stroke management, and multisystem organ dysfunction care
• First-time travelers accepted with at least 2 years of ICU experience
• Minimum of 2 supervisory references covering 1 year of employment within the last 3 years in a comparable specialty/setting

Responsibilities

• Work in a high-acuity, fast-paced Medical ICU at a Level II Trauma Center
• Care for medically complex, critically ill patients with respiratory failure, cardiac arrest with TTM, multisystem organ failure, various shock states, CVA post tPA, COVID, ARDS, DKA, and ETOH withdrawal
• Standard patient ratio is 2:1, potentially increasing to 4:1 for boarders awaiting inpatient transfer
• 1 CNA per shift for support
• Frequent procedures include bedside central and arterial line placements, chest tube placement, rapid sequence intubation, para/thoracentesis, and code blue response
• Day shift schedule, 3x12 hours (6:30 AM - 7:00 PM)
• Weekend work required
• Floating required, including potential float down to telemetry units and to sister facilities within the state
• Uses EPIC EMR system
• Must commit to working 3 of the 5 major holidays (Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year's Eve, New Year's Day)
• Scrubs of any color permitted except reddish orange
• Facility-paid parking provided
• Local candidates not accepted; must reside outside a 50-mile radius unless returning at a lower bill rate
• Former permanent staff may return as travelers after a 3-month waiting period, provided they reside outside a 50-mile radius of the facility
• Candidates must disclose any prior employment history with a Providence facility, including permanent, travel, or per-diem work
