  • Epic experience within past 2 years required.

Responsibilities

  • Perform ED care for neonatal to geriatric patients in a rural critical access hospital.
  • Provide ESI triage, IV insertion, drips/infusions, EKGs, and restraint application.
  • Coordinate ambulatory transports and ED-related nursing duties as needed.
  • Precept new nurses and assist with ambulance transports when required.
  • Maintain documentation in Epic and ensure patient safety 24/7.

Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced Emergency Department RN for a night shift assignment at a critical access hospital requiring prior travel experience and a full set of emergency certifications.

Details
  • 12-hour night shift assignment, 36 hours per week
  • Critical access Emergency Department with 10-14 bed capacity, Trauma Level IV
  • Patient population ranges from newborn to geriatric
  • Nurse to patient ratio of 1:4
  • No floating required
  • Charge experience highly preferred; charge nurse assigned 24/7
  • Staffing includes 3-4 RNs per shift, an ED tech 24/7, and a mid-level provider from 0930-2130
  • STEMI, stroke, and trauma patients are transported to a higher level of care and may require RN transport
  • Documentation via Epic; medication system is Pyxis
  • Special equipment includes Alaris IV pumps, Phillips monitors, and a Ranger blood warmer
  • Utilizes Telemedicine and Telestroke consultations
  • Facility does not have interventional radiology or cath lab
  • Minimum every other weekend required, with schedule flexibility to meet unit needs
  • Must work 2 of the following 4 holidays: Thanksgiving, Christmas, Christmas Eve, and New Year's Day
Requirements
  • Active VT or compact RN license required
  • Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, PALS, ENPC, NRP, NIHSS, and TNCC
  • NIHSS certification required prior to start; proof of TNCC class enrollment with date accepted if not yet completed
  • Minimum 2 years of recent in-unit Emergency Department experience required
  • Previous travel assignment experience required (minimum of 1 completed contract)
  • Epic experience within the past 2 years required
  • Charge experience preferred
  • Reliable personal or rental vehicle required due to lack of public transportation; all-season or snow tires recommended November through April
Additional Information
  • Responsibilities include ESI triage, IV insertion, drips/infusions, EKGs, restraint application, procedural sedation, and ambulance transports
  • Facility provides general surgery services but does not have interventional radiology or cath lab
  • Pediatric patients requiring higher-level care are typically transported to another facility
  • Bi-weekly orientations held on Mondays
  • Manager/supervisor available on-call during off hours
  • Candidates should be comfortable precepting new nurses and willing to assist with ambulance transports if needed
  • Prior experience in a critical access hospital or rural ED setting is a plus
  • Local candidates accepted
