Job summary

American Traveler is seeking an experienced Emergency Department RN with an active AK RN license for a critical access hospital serving as a regional referral center in Southeast Alaska. The ED handles diverse cases and sees seasonal tourist volume, operating with Epic EMR.

Requirements include AK RN license, BLS/ACLS/PALS, 2–3 years RN/ED experience, and various certifications. Shifts are 3x12 (36 hours/week) with no on-call; housing and travel reimbursements provided.

Qualifications

• Active AK RN license required.
• BLS and ACLS certifications required.
• PALS certification required.
• 2–3 years RN experience preferred, with 1 year ED experience preferred.
• New grad RNs with prior EMS/paramedic or related emergency experience will be considered.
• TNCC and ENPC certifications preferred.
• ABG interpretation experience preferred.
• IV skills for all patient ages required.
• Telemetry experience required.
• Computer charting experience required.
• 1 year of Epic experience preferred.
• Two supervisory references from the past 2 years required for consideration.
• No more than one DUI on record.

Responsibilities

• Emergency Department at a critical access, Level IV Trauma Center.
• Regional referral center serving Ketchikan and surrounding Alaska islands, with patients arriving via boat and fixed-wing aircraft.
• 1:4 patient ratios.
• Treats cardiac, critical care, complex medical-surgical, psychiatric, and multiple trauma patients across all age groups.
• Seasonal tourist volume increases ED caseload from April through September.
• 3x12 variable shifts with start times at 7am, 10am, 12pm, and/or 7pm, primarily nights but may flex as needed.
• 36 guaranteed hours per week.
• No on-call requirements.
• No floating to other hospital departments required.
• Uses Epic EMR.
• Manage a wide range of ED presentations including trauma, cardiac events, respiratory emergencies, psychiatric crises, and pediatric cases.
• Independently manage high-acuity patients in a fast-paced, high-volume, high-risk environment.
• Any scrub color accepted.
• Free parking available.
• First-time travelers accepted, though prior travel experience is preferred.
• No blocked scheduling permitted due to union requirements.
• Local candidates within 60 miles of the facility are not accepted.
• No RTO restrictions.
• Previous PeaceHealth employees must have been separated from the health system for at least 1 year before returning as a traveler.
• Proof of active or pending AK license required, with start date potentially delayed up to 8-10 weeks if license is pending.
