Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for an Emergency Department position requiring 3+ years of ER experience and an active IL RN license.

Details

• 231-bed teaching hospital with no trauma designation, located in Hazel Crest, IL
• Patient population spans neonates to geriatrics with diagnoses including minor trauma, sepsis, COVID, STEMI, stroke, DKA, mental health, respiratory issues, and cardiac/neuro complaints
• RN to patient ratio of 1:5, with the 5th patient typically low acuity during surge times
• Travelers are not expected to work in the triage area
• 12-hour night shift schedule, 36 hours per week with variable start times
• Every other weekend rotation, rarely back-to-back
• No on-call or call-back requirements
• No floating required
• Support staff includes ER Techs (1:10-12 ratio), Charge RN, RRT, phlebotomy, and hospitalists
• Uses EPIC EMR, Alaris IV pumps, Pyxis medication dispensing, and bedside/central station monitors

Requirements

• Active IL RN license required
• Current BLS and ACLS certifications required; PALS preferred
• Minimum 3+ years of ER experience required
• At least 1 year of travel nursing experience preferred
• Strong skills in cardiac rhythm interpretation, IV insertion, ED drips/med administration, and EKG acquisition
• EPIC EMR experience preferred
• Minimum 1 professional reference dated within the last year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN
• Candidate's middle name/initial, DOB, and last 4 of SSN required for consideration

Additional Information

• Provide emergency care across a wide range of patient acuities and age groups
• Orientation includes NEO with educator-led access setup and modules, plus 1-2 shifts on the unit
• Holiday coverage required: 2 of 3 summer holidays (Memorial Day, Labor Day, July 4th) and 1 from each winter holiday group (Thanksgiving Day or day after, Christmas Eve or Christmas Day, New Year's Eve or New Year's Day)
• RTO approval available for up to 7 days
• Schedules created in 6-week increments and released 1-2 weeks in advance; no self-scheduling and block scheduling cannot be accommodated
• Navy blue scrubs required
• Free parking available in designated areas
• No artificial fingernails or extenders permitted for direct patient care; natural nail tips must be kept under 1/2 inch
• First-time travelers welcome to apply with 3+ years of ED experience
• Local candidates accepted at the same rate with no radius rules
• Former Advocate Health employees must be separated for at least 12 months before becoming eligible for travel assignments
• Second interview with the manager required as part of the clinical interview process

Weekly local pay is fully taxable and therefore lower due to additional employer-paid taxes and related costs.
