Job summary

American Traveler is seeking a Registered Nurse for a high-acuity Emergency Department assignment in California. The ideal candidate will hold an active CA RN license with ER and stroke experience, and possess ACLS, BLS, NIHSS, and PALS certifications.

The role includes night shifts on a 3x12 schedule, weekend requirements, and potential float to Tele Hold and ICU Hold units. Epic EMR experience is strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide high-acuity care in a busy ED with ~230 visits/day.

• Perform triage, PPE, and isolation precautions.

Job description

American Traveler is hiring a Registered Nurse for a high-acuity Emergency Department position requiring stroke experience and a CA RN license.

Requirements

• Active CA RN license required
• Minimum 1.5 years of experience in the ER specialty required, with 2 years preferred
• If using the 1.5 year minimum, at least 1 year must be consistent experience at one facility (not per diem)
• Required certifications: ACLS, BLS, NIHSS, PALS
• Preferred certifications: TNCC, CEN or CPN
• Epic EMR experience highly preferred
• Stroke experience required
• Skilled in IV therapy/phlebotomy, blood product administration, central line care, and medication administration including emergency medications, IV insulin protocols, and IV vasopressors
• Experience with continuous IV sedation and procedural sedation administration/monitoring preferred
• Experience managing neurological and CVA patients
• Skilled in cardiac monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation and management
• Skilled in obtaining 12-lead EKG/ECG
• Experience with triage, isolation precautions/PPE, and splinting/orthopedic care
• Experience managing suicidal/psychiatric patients
• 2 supervisory references covering 1 year of employment within the last 3 years required
• Full SSN and DOB required for consideration

Responsibilities

• High acuity, high volume Emergency Department with approximately 230 visits per day
• 36 beds with overflow units
• 1:4 nurse-to-patient ratio
• Patient population includes all ages, primarily geriatric and adult with 10% pediatric patients (transported to CHOC)
• Case load includes respiratory, stroke, abdominal pain, cardiac, and sepsis cases
• Stroke and STEMI Certified Center
• Magnet Designated facility
• Night shift, 3x12 hours from 19:00 to 07:30
• Must be available to work at least 6 weekend shifts per 6-week schedule cycle, which may include working every weekend
• No on-call requirements
• Required to float to Tele Hold and ICU Hold units as needed
• Charting system is Meditech
• Deliver emergency care across a wide range of patient acuities and conditions in a Stroke and STEMI Certified Center
• Travelers may be required to float between sister facilities within the same health system
• Scrub color for RNs is Royal Blue
• Free parking provided
• Local candidates accepted at a lower bill rate within a 50-mile radius
• Former permanent staff must wait at least 3 months before returning as a travel nurse and cannot be within 50 miles of the facility
• Candidates must disclose any prior work history with the health system as a permanent employee, traveler, or per-diem staff, including location and dates
• RTO requests must be submitted at time of application, as post-submission requests may not be accommodated
• Must be willing to commit to working 3 of 5 major holidays (Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year's Eve, New Year's Day)
• First-time travelers generally not accepted unless candidate has a strong skill set and experience
