Qualifications

• The RN's practice is guided by the ANA Standard for Professional Nurse and Code of Ethics.
• RN records patients' medical history and symptoms; helps perform tests, operate equipment, and administer care.
• RN establishes or contributes to a care plan and manages medications and IV therapy as needed.
• RN teaches patients and families about post-treatment care, nutrition, exercise, and self-care.
• RN provides direction to LPNs and nursing aides and delegates as appropriate.
• RN supports clinical knowledge advancement and precepts staff and students.
• RN seeks to improve competency and maintain a healthy work environment.
• Nursing practice is evidence-based and uses Shared Governance in decision-making.
• All RN staff caring for stroke patients must know stroke symptoms, protocols, NIHSS, and care pathways.

Responsibilities

• Possess the knowledge to collect health data, analyze diagnostics, and create family-centered care plans.
• Develop individualized patient care plans with current best practice guidance.
• Implement interventions, administer medications, and manage IV access as ordered.
• Provide patient and family education on illness management and home care needs.
• Document observations and nursing interventions clearly for continuity of care.
• Continuously evaluate and improve the care plan to optimize patient outcomes.
• Align nursing practice with professional standards and system regulations.
