Responsibilities

• Care for complex cardiac patients including IABPs, temporary pacemakers, and titratable drips.
• Utilize EPIC EMR and monitor patient strips with trained RN responsibilities.

Job description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Cardiovascular ICU stepdown position requiring at least 2 years of CVICU experience and an active IL license.

Requirements

• Active IL RN license required at time of consideration
• BLS (AHA) certification required
• ACLS preferred; CCRN or PCCN a plus
• Minimum 2 years of solid CVICU or Cardiac ICU experience required
• Must be able to interpret cardiac strips and titrate multiple drips including dopamine, dobutamine, levophed, epinephrine, norepinephrine, vasopressin, cleviprex, propofol, fentanyl, versed, insulin, heparin, and esmolol
• Strong assessment, critical thinking, and organizational skills required
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-stress environment

Responsibilities

• Acute care setting in a Level 1 Trauma facility's Adult Cardiac Intermediate Unit (Cardiovascular ICU stepdown)
• 20-bed unit, all private and monitored rooms
• Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:3, up to 1:4 depending on acuity
• Patient population includes stepdown patients from ICU, TAVRs, ablations, Watchman procedures, Micras, MitraClips, heart failure, and trached/ventilated patients
• Utilizes Swan-Ganz catheters, external pacemakers, PICC, midlines, CVC, and arterial lines (radial and femoral)
• EPIC EMR used
• 12-hour day shifts (7a-7p)
• Weekend rotation of every other to every third weekend (Saturday/Sunday for day shift)
• Holiday rotation required (every other holiday)
• No call or standby requirements
• Float requirements include floating to all levels of care, including up to the ICU
• Care for complex cardiac patients including those with IABPs, temporary pacemakers, and multiple concurrent titratable drips
• Charge nurses and house supervisors are present 24/7; charge nurses may take patient assignments
• PCT support available at ratios ranging from 1:12 to 1:15
• Ventilator, CPAP, BPAP, and heated high-flow equipment used; trached and ventilated patients are common
• All patients connected to Philips monitoring; monitor techs available, but RNs must read and interpret their own strips
• Unit orientation includes 1 day of unit-specific training and 2 days with a preceptor
• No specific scrub color required, but attire must be professional and appropriate; scrubs not provided by facility
• Local candidates accepted
• Candidates residing within 50 miles of the facility are eligible for a local pay rate
