Job summary

Actalent is exclusively hiring for long-term Phlebotomist roles in Fort Wayne, IN. This position focuses on safely collecting, processing, and managing patient specimens, performing venipunctures, labeling and transporting samples, and supporting efficient laboratory operations in a fast-paced clinical environment.

Typical shifts are 8 hours, onsite, with opportunities for permanent placement after a successful assignment.

Qualifications

• At least 6 months of venipuncture experience in a fast-paced setting.
• Proven experience drawing blood from pediatric to geriatric patients.
• Proficiency in phlebotomy techniques with straight and butterfly needles.
• Experience handling specimens: labeling, preparation, centrifugation, splitting, freezing, storage.
• Ability to match requisition forms to tubes and verify orders.
• Strong attention to detail to ensure 100% accuracy.
• Knowledge of proper specimen packaging and transport procedures.
• Understanding of OSHA and DEP regulations and safety compliance.

Responsibilities

• Perform venipunctures and blood draws with needles, ensuring patient comfort and safety.
• Collect and store blood and other specimens per procedures and protocols.
• Explain venipuncture and collection steps clearly to patients of all ages.
• Match requisition forms to tubes and verify order interpretations.
• Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens per test orders and protocols.
• Check test requisitions or labels against orders for 100% accuracy.
• Package specimens securely for transport and follow transport procedures.
• Store specimens at correct temperatures and label containers accurately.
• Follow protocol-specific procedures to ensure specimen integrity and testing compliance.
• Record equipment maintenance data and perform decontamination tasks.
