Job summary

TotalMed is seeking an OR Travel Nurse (Operating Room RN) for a 13-week travel assignment in Columbia, MD. The role involves assisting physicians and medical staff during surgery, with duties for circulating, scrubbing, and RN first assistant as applicable.

Requires 1–2 years of acute care experience and certifications (ACLS, BLS, PALS). The travel RN will perform pre- and post-surgery care, educate patients and families, and manage instruments, medications, and safety within the operating

Qualifications

• ACLS certification required.
• BLS certification required.
• PALS certification required.

Responsibilities

• Provide basic bedside care.
• Prepare, administer and record prescribed medication, reporting adverse reactions to treatment.
• Serve as the communication liaison between patients' family and operating team.
• Ensure that the correct procedure is performed on the correct patient.
• Initiate patient education plan as prescribed by the physician; teach patients and families home care needs.
• Respond to comfort and safety needs of patient.
• Accurate care and handling of specimens.
• Monitor equipment used during surgery.
• Inventory of surgical items pre- and post-procedure.
• Selection and handling of surgical instruments and supplies during procedures.
• Inventory of surgical items pre- and post-procedure.
• Assist physicians by delivering direct surgical care.
• Help control bleeding.
• Suture patients following surgery.
