  • Other certifications and licenses may be required
Summary

The Nuclear Medicine Technologist is a highly specialized health care professional responsible for preparing and administering radiopharmaceuticals to diagnose and treat various medical conditions, operating advanced imaging equipment, monitoring patient safety, and ensuring compliance with radiation safety standards.

Essential Work Functions
  • Educate patients about procedures and address questions
  • Maintain and inspect equipment for proper functioning, reporting malfunctions and ensuring radiation safety compliance
  • Prepare and administer radiopharmaceuticals and medications according to protocols
  • Monitor patients for adverse reactions, intervening as necessary
  • Operate imaging equipment to create images as ordered by physicians
  • Document procedure details in patient records, ensuring continuity of care and regulatory compliance
  • Follow hospital safety rules and radiation safety procedures to minimize exposure
  • Perform other duties as assigned within scope of practice
