Summary

The Nuclear Medicine Technologist is a highly specialized health care professional responsible for preparing and administering radiopharmaceuticals, operating advanced imaging equipment, monitoring patient safety, and ensuring compliance with radiation safety standards while collaborating with healthcare teams to deliver accurate and effective diagnostic results.

Essential Work Functions

• Educate patients about nuclear medicine procedures and address questions as they arise.
• Maintain and inspect nuclear medicine equipment for proper functioning, reporting malfunctions and ensuring compliance with radiation safety standards.
• Prepare and administer radiopharmaceuticals and other medications to patients according to established protocols and safety standards.
• Monitor patients for adverse reactions to radioactive drugs or other medications, intervening as necessary to ensure their safety.
• Operate medical imaging equipment to create images of organs or areas of the body according to physician orders.
• Document procedure details in patient records to ensure continuity of care and compliance with regulations.
• Follow hospital safety rules and policies and radiation safety procedures to minimize exposure to radioactive materials.
• Perform other duties as assigned within the scope of Nuclear Medicine Technologist practice.
