American Traveler is hiring an LPN for a Medical Surgical unit at a correctional healthcare facility, requiring an active Illinois LPN license and BLS certification.

Details

• Correctional facility setting on a Medical Surgical unit
• Day shift schedule of 3x12-hour shifts (11:00-23:30)
• 13-week assignment with every other weekend required (2 weekends per month)
• Uses Cerner charting system
• Mandatory float facility, clinicians may be floated within scope to meet facility needs across various units
• May float outside primary facility up to 50 miles, with as little as 2 hours notice
• Navy blue scrubs required
• Free, first come first serve parking available

Requirements

• Current Illinois LPN license required in hand at time of submission (license required if applicable)
• Graduate of an accredited School of Practical Nursing in Illinois
• BLS certification required
• Completion of IDFPR-approved Pharmacology/Medication Administration coursework for Practical Nurses, with documentation available upon request
• 2 years of recent full-time paid clinical experience in acute care or ambulatory care preferred
• Cerner charting experience required
• Proof of COVID-19 vaccination required with no exceptions (booster not required)
• Two professional references required prior to start, from most recent employers, with only one reference accepted per employer
• International candidates must have SSN/SSC finalized (not pending) prior to submission

Additional Information

• Responsibilities include medication administration (oral, subcutaneous, IM, eye/ear drops), NG/G tube care, respiratory support (oxygen, nasal cannula, face masks), wound care/wound vac, and patient bathing and hygiene assistance
• Provides vital sign monitoring, cardiac monitoring, and emergency response support including Rapid Response/Code team involvement
• Skilled in isolation precautions/PPE, restraint use, and patient admissions
• Experience with blood glucose monitoring, foley catheter insertion, and ambulation assistance
• No home unit assignment; floating to a variety of units, including outside primary competency, is standard practice with team‑based support provided when floated outside specialty
• Refusal to float may result in cancellation of the assignment
• RTO limited to 5 days maximum with no more than 2 consecutive days, and no time off approved on weekends
• No holiday RTO permitted, and no time off allowed the day before or after a holiday
• Contract may be subject to cancellation if a call‑out occurs on a holiday
• Block scheduling and special scheduling requests are not approved
• Returning clinicians must undergo full recredentialing and re‑attend orientation, even if the break in contract was less than 30 days
• Lab work must be completed within 72 hours of accepting the assignment
• Local candidates within 75 miles of the facility may be considered at a reduced rate
• First‑time travelers are not considered for this position

Pay

Weekly Wages: $648/wk

Regular Hours: $18.00 x 36 hours/wk = $648

Weekly Stipends: $740/wk

Lodging: $37.72 x 7 days = $264

Meals & Incidentals: $68.00 x 7 days = $476

Total Weekly Pay: $1,388/wk

In compliance with state pay transparency laws, we disclose that the estimated weekly pay range for this role is $1,290 - $1,388. The weekly pay shown in this posting, along with related figures, reflects the lower end of this range for local candidates and higher end of this range for travel candidates. Weekly travel pay includes tax‑free stipends per IRS guidelines. Weekly local pay is fully taxable and therefore lower due to additional employer‑paid taxes and related costs.
