Job summary

Peraton is seeking a full-time background investigator to work near Jack, AL, within 50 miles. You will train to federal standards, conduct in-person investigations, interview subjects and references, and perform records checks across multiple agencies. You will type detailed reports in government systems while collaborating with a Field Manager.

Candidate must reside within the local radius, be a U.S. citizen, and be willing to travel daily as needed.

Qualifications

• 4 years of general work experience or a bachelor’s degree; federal background investigations preferred.
• Must obtain and maintain a Top Secret clearance; active federal background with T5 adjudication preferred.
• U.S. citizenship.
• Daily travel locally and outside the primary work area as needed.
• Home office required.
• TDY/remote travel 14–30 days may be required.
• Must reside within the mileage requirement stated in the job description.
• A valid driver’s license and reliable transportation; driving may be required.
• Must carry sufficient motor vehicle insurance.
• Typing 40+ WPM and ability to use multiple computer programs concurrently.
• Ability to speak for extended periods and transcribe with high accuracy.
• Proficient writing to submit high-quality reports with minimal errors.
• Professional interaction, attendance, punctuality, and attention to detail.
• Maintain confidentiality, ethics and integrity.
• Professional attire required.
• Physically capable of lifting up to 10 pounds, stairs, extensive walking, standing, and night driving.

Responsibilities

• Complete a 6–7 week training to become certified in Federal Investigative Standards.
• Travel daily for in-person background investigations to assess employment suitability for access to sensitive information.
• Schedule and conduct face-to-face interviews with subjects, neighbors, employers, and others.
• Perform record searches at police, court, education, financial, and medical/mental health facilities.
• Type and report all information clearly in a government-issued system.
• Work independently while collaborating with a Field Manager and a team of investigators.
