The NC Office of State Human Resources seeks a part-time Travel Counselor/Admin Associate for the Welcome Center program in Norlina, Warren County. You will assist visitors, provide travel information, and make hotel reservations at state Welcome Centers along interstate routes.

This temporary position offers up to 32 hours per month, with variable shifts including weekends and holidays. Training and customer service experience in tourism are beneficial.

Qualifications

  • General knowledge of the principles and practices of public relations, sales and customer service.
  • General knowledge of promotional and publicity media suitable for use in the development of the tourism industry.
  • Ability to learn and communicate general tourism information, including basic information regarding attractions, events, accommodations, recreational, historical and geographic features of the state.
  • Ability to assess and use tools available to provide customer service and complete assignments, including computers, Microsoft Office products and online search engines.

Responsibilities

  • Greeting visitors, answering questions about the State of North Carolina and its tourist facilities.
  • Distribute information on attractions, events, accommodations; and providing highway route information.
  • Travel counselors make hotel and motel reservations.
  • Maintain brochure display racks and back stock and order new and replacement brochures.
  • Participate in familiarization tours and sharing experiences with other employees.
  • Use available resources to satisfy visitor inquiries which includes giving occasional presentations to schools or civic groups.
  • Work Part-time hours, up to 32 hours per month (8 hours per week) with Monday-Friday, rotating shifts, etc.). Sunday-Saturday varying - Weekend/holiday work required.

Job Order Hourly Rate of Pay: $15 (Based on education and/or years of relevant work experience reflected on the application).

Details Of The Position

The Visitor Services Program works in cooperation with strategic partners to strengthen the state's tourism industry by providing customer service and information on travel to and within North Carolina to visitors and potential visitors. The Welcome Center program maximizes the opportunities to increase visitor expenditures through responsive sales and marketing initiatives and quality personal customer service at points of entry to the state along interstate highways. Welcome Centers provide multiple travel services, such as providing travel information, planning trips, routing, distributing travel literature and making reservations for accommodations.

Role

This temporary Travel Counselor/ Admin Associate could be a fun part-time role for the right candidate. Travel Counselors are public relations positions that serve the traveling public.

  • Greeting visitors, answering questions about the State of North Carolina and its tourist facilities
