Job summary

A state government organization in Raleigh, NC is seeking a temporary Vehicle Equipment / Operator I to collect and deliver time-sensitive laboratory specimens across the state. Vehicle Equipment / Operator I -Temporary

Location: Raleigh, NC - Wake County

Job Order Hourly Rate of Pay: $15.60 (Based on education and/or years of relevant work experience reflected on the application).

This temporary position is assigned to the Department of Administration and is a recurring posting for our Night and Medical Courier Driver positions, which are essential to allow the MSC to continue operating without impacting service to state agencies. The role involves collecting and delivering mail from all agencies across the state, including time-sensitive biohazard samples that must be delivered to the NC State Laboratory of Public Health in Raleigh daily. The successful candidate will provide coverage for the MSC Raleigh location in addition to HUB locations in Statesville, Roanoke Rapids, and Richland.

Responsibilities

  • Picking up and delivering time-sensitive laboratory specimens.
  • Driving inner-city and statewide routes using state trucks and vans.
  • Transporting large containers of mail; weighing and metering mail; mechanical and manual sorting of large quantities of mail; creating manifest of signature mail.
  • Heavy lifting may be required.
  • Sorting mail by 4-6 digit numbers and mailing codes; bundling mail for courier route delivery; performing additional duties as assigned.

This is a temporary position and there are no leave or retirement benefits offered. Temporary employees who work an annual average of 30 or more hours per week may be eligible for health insurance coverage under the High-Deductible Health Plan (HDHP). Minimum Education and Experience: High school diploma or GED, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Must possess necessary licenses or certifications to operate assigned types of vehicles or equipment.

  • Clean and maintain work areas and equipment.
  • Work during weekends and holidays as needed.
  • Maintain data logs throughout routes.
