Job summary

VCU Health is seeking a Trauma Registrar to support both adult and pediatric Trauma Programs and ensure compliance with Level 1 verification standards. The role involves identifying cases for inclusion, abstracting data from the EMR and prehospital databases, and applying ICD-10 and AIS coding to procedures, comorbidities, and complications.

The ideal candidate will have CPC/CCS or RHIT preferred, with CAISS certification within 24 months of hire.

Qualifications

• Proficiency with MS Office software including email, MS Word, and MS Excel.
• Associate’s Degree in medical terminology and Anatomy/Physiology or medical records coding from an accredited program.
• Experience with ICD-10 coding and data abstraction is preferred.
• Ability to interpret medical information and enter data accurately into the registry.

Responsibilities

• Performs daily chart reviews on specific patients and assigns ICD-10 and other specialized codes.
• Enters data into the registry and interprets medical information.
• Maintains data quality and timeliness for reporting to regulatory agencies.
• Handles cases with basic to moderate complexity and may involve after-hours case volumes.
