Job summary

Avenues for Youth seeks a Youth Support Specialist - On-Call to engage with homeless youth and provide trauma-informed support in a shelter and transitional living setting. You will mentor youth, support independent living skills, and help maintain a safe, orderly environment.

This part-time, hourly role requires strong communication, confidentiality, and adaptability to handle diverse youth needs while ensuring program goals are met.

Qualifications

• BA/BS in social work, human services, education, or related field; 3–5 years of related experience and/or training OR equivalent combination
• Must be at least 24 years of age
• Strong interpersonal and confidentiality skills; youth-centered approach
• Excellent written and verbal communication, basic computer skills

Responsibilities

• Build genuine professional relationships with youth to meet basic needs in a safe environment
• Provide one-on-one mentoring and guidance including homework and meal prep
• Coach youth on Independent Living Skills and routines for housing, school, work, and relationships
• Model positive social interactions and facilitate constructive conflict resolution
• Provide proactive intervention to de-escalate conflicts between youth
• Assist in providing youth medications and record administration as directed
