Job summary

Colorado Department of Human Services is seeking a Correctional Youth Security Officer I to provide direct care and supervision of adjudicated and pre-adjudicated youth in secure facilities. The role emphasizes safety, crisis intervention, and adherence to trauma-responsive practices within the Youth Center.

Youth-focused competencies include de-escalation, mentoring, and teamwork, with mandatory pre-service training and potential overtime. Shift work is required across evenings and weekends.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Preferred: college education in behavioral health or juvenile justice.
• Experience with adjudicated/detained youth in secure settings or behavioral health, and crisis intervention.
• Experience facilitating psychoeducational groups and trauma-informed youth work.
• Experience leading youth and mentoring/coaching; strong verbal de-escalation skills.

Responsibilities

• Safety, security, and supervision of adjudicated/pre-adjudicated youth in a secure setting.
• Implement and supervise Youth Center programming and behavior management.
• Document observations and records in logs and databases.
• Contribute to organizational accountability and trauma-responsive environment.
• Complete pre-service training and ongoing mandatory trainings; may require travel and overtime.
