Job summary

The County of Berks is seeking a Victim Advocate to support crime victims and their families. You will perform initial intakes, needs assessments, and coordinate services with partner agencies to ensure access to resources and timely referrals.

The role requires understanding of the criminal justice system, trauma-informed approaches, and strong communication skills. Occasional travel and flexible hours may be required to support victim services.

Qualifications

  • Associate’s degree may be acceptable; a Bachelor’s degree is preferred.
  • Two years of experience in the criminal justice field or a social service agency.
  • Background check including NCIC required.
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and training.

Responsibilities

  • Greet visitors at the CAC.
  • Complete initial intake with victims/survivors and inform them of CAC process and services.
  • Screen and assess urgent mental health needs and provide referrals.
  • Coordinate with partner agencies for forensic interviews and medical exams.
  • Provide information on Victim Compensation and assist with claims.
  • Assist with accessing protective orders, housing, services, and transportation.
  • Maintain client files and enter data into tracking systems.
  • Participate in outreach events, volunteer recruitment, and community planning.
  • Attend supervision and multidisciplinary team meetings; travel for training as needed.

Education

Associate’s degree acceptable; Bachelor’s degree preferred
