Children's Home Society of South Dakota is seeking a compassionate Full-Time Residential Youth Counselor to join our residential program. You’ll provide supervision, guidance, and trauma-informed care while collaborating with a dedicated team to help children navigate challenges and build brighter futures.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Bachelor’s degree preferred but not required.
• 1–2 years experience with children, especially those with behavioral issues, is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Child Supervision: Nurture children through interactive and engaging strategies; maintain vigilant supervision; assist with hygiene, meals, getting ready for school; respond to emotional dysregulation in a trauma-informed manner.
• Team Participation: Act as a member of the treatment team and maintain communication; help keep the unit clean and orderly.
• Data Management and Communication: Document handoffs; complete daily/weekly logs; finalize behavior/restraint/incident reports before shifts end.
• Safety First: Ensure safety standards are followed; monitor phone calls and visits per therapist guidance.
• Professional Development: Work on Quality Improvement goals; attend annual training and weekly staff meetings.
