Job summary

Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services is seeking compassionate Child and Family Services Specialists (CFSS) in North Platte to support families involved with the child welfare system. The role focuses on trauma-informed case management, safety assessments, and collaboration with families and partners to promote permanency and well-being for children.

Responsibilities include home visits, court testimony when needed, and active involvement in multidisciplinary team discussions.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in social work, psychology, sociology, counseling, human development, mental health care, education, criminal justice, or related fields.
• Consideration given to applicants in final semester of bachelor’s degree.

Responsibilities

• Serve as a case manager for families referred to DHHS.
• Conduct home visits and safety assessments.
• Advocate for well-being of children and families while respecting diversity.
• Involve families in decision-making.
• Collaborate with legal system and partners for permanency goals.
• Use SDM tools to inform safety planning and decisions.
• Prepare timely, accurate documentation for internal and legal use.
• Connect families to formal services and supports as needed.
• Promote normalcy and permanency for children in care.
• Apply trauma-informed, least-restrictive approaches to strengthen family functioning.
