Job summary

Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services is seeking compassionate Child and Family Services Specialists (CFSS) in Hastings (Evergreen). The role involves trauma-informed case management, home visits, and advocacy to support children and families involved with the child welfare system.

Training is provided with a trainee rate, and promotion to CFSS occurs after completion. Duties include safety assessments, collaboration with community partners, court testimony when needed, and ensuring

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in social work or related fields required.
• Promotion to CFSS contingent on degree requirements and required training.
• Experience in child welfare preferred is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Serve as a case manager for families referred to DHHS.
• Conduct home visits and comprehensive safety assessments.
• Advocate for the well-being of children and families respecting diversity.
• Apply family-centered practices and involve families in decisions.
• Collaborate with the legal system and partners to support permanency goals.
• Use Structured Decision Making (SDM) tools for safety planning.
• Write timely and professional documentation for internal and legal use.
• Connect families to formal services and informal supports.
• Promote normalcy and permanency for children in care.
• Apply trauma-informed and least-restrictive approaches to strengthen families.
