Job summary

New Horizons in Brownwood, Texas is seeking Direct Care Staff to support the emotional, social, and cognitive development of children in a residential setting. You will work directly with children who have experienced trauma, providing nurturing, structured care and participating in treatment planning.

Responsibilities include maintaining safety, supervising youth, implementing individualized strategies, documenting progress, and ensuring consistency across shifts while upholding licensing

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; related field preferred.
• Must pass background check, drug screening, and TB test.
• Experience with crisis intervention and de-escalation preferred.
• Ability to work in residential treatment and with trauma-affected youth.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.

Responsibilities

• Maintain a safe, structured environment prioritizing the physical and emotional well-being of each child.
• Ensure continuous and appropriate supervision of assigned children based on individual needs, risk factors, age, and developmental level.
• Intervene promptly to prevent or de-escalate unsafe behaviors and maintain a therapeutic environment.
• Provide structured routines and developmentally appropriate activities that foster independence and emotional regulation.
• Assist children with personal care and hygiene needs while promoting self-care skills.
• Actively participate in treatment planning and team meetings, offering observations and input regarding child behavior, progress, and needs.
