Job summary

Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services is seeking a Child and Family Services Specialist (CFSS) Trainee to support families in the child welfare system with trauma-informed case management and advocacy. Travel to homes, attend community meetings, and collaborate with partners are key aspects of the role.

The position starts with trainee pay of $22.327/hour, increasing to $26.183/hour after training.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in social work, psychology, sociology, counseling, human development, mental health care, education, criminal justice, or related fields.
• Promotion to CFSS contingent on degree completion and required training.
• Preferred qualifications include experience in child welfare, juvenile justice and/or case management, internships with human services/child welfare agencies.
• Other: Valid Driver's license is required.

Responsibilities

• Serve as a case manager for families referred to DHHS.
• Conduct home visits and comprehensive safety assessments in diverse settings.
• Advocate for the well-being of children and families while respecting diversity.
• Collaborate with legal system and partners to support permanency goals.
• Utilize SDM tools to inform safety planning and decisions.
• Write timely, professional documentation for internal and legal use.
