Job summary

Family Service of Rhode Island is seeking a Behavioral Specialist - Relief for South County Academy in Exeter, RI. This role provides guidance, supervision, and trauma-informed support to adolescents in school and residential settings, implementing Trauma Systems Therapy and other evidence-based models.

You'll engage youth in arts, activities, and life skills, promoting safety, learning, and positive decision making while collaborating with a multidisciplinary team.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in social work-related field or significant residential experience required.
• Willingness to become ABA certified is a plus; ABA certification preferred.
• Flexible hours including evenings, weekends and holidays.
• Knowledge of cultural, ethnic, racial, and socioeconomic issues; able to implement child management techniques.
• Excellent communication and a team-oriented mindset.
• Reliable transportation, valid driver’s license, insurance, registration and driving record.
• Shifts may be under three hours; scheduling includes staff meetings as agreed.
• Bilingual/ASL skills add compensation; multilingual skills add compensation.

Responsibilities

• Provide guidance, support and supervision to adolescents 13-18 in school and residential settings.
• Implement Trauma Systems Therapy (TST) and other evidence-based models of treatment.
• Assist students in daily decisions, conduct and discipline per policies and contracts.
• Facilitate programming including arts, sports, horticulture and life skills groups.
• Promote safety, well-being, self-expression, learning and positive decision making.
