Job summary

SAMGI is seeking a Board-Certified or Board-Eligible trauma surgeon to provide trauma and acute surgical coverage at JFK Memorial Hospital in Indio, CA. The role is part of SAMGI’s surgical hospitalist/trauma program with a shift-based model and predictable scheduling.

This opportunity offers a per-shift compensation of $3,000 and 104 shifts per year, supported by an established national organization and full operational support.

Qualifications

• MD or DO degree required and board eligible or certified in general surgery.
• ATLS certification or ability to obtain is required.
• Active California medical license or eligibility is mandatory.

Responsibilities

• Provide trauma and acute surgical coverage for a Level IV Trauma Center.
• Evaluate and manage trauma patients in ER and inpatient settings.
• Perform operative and non-operative trauma care as indicated.
• Collaborate with ED, anesthesia, ICU and hospital teams.
• Attend assigned shifts and participate in call coverage.

Position Summary

SAMGI is seeking a Board-Certified or Board-Eligible Trauma Surgeon to provide trauma and acute surgical coverage at JFK Memorial Hospital. This role is part of SAMGI’s surgical hospitalist / trauma program, delivering consistent, high-quality trauma coverage through a shift-based model.

Responsibilities

Provide trauma surgery coverage for a Level IV Trauma Center

Evaluate and manage trauma patients in the emergency department and inpatient settings

Perform operative and non-operative trauma care as indicated

Collaborate closely with emergency medicine, anesthesia, ICU, and hospital staff

Participate in call coverage during assigned shifts

Deliver timely, safe, and compliant patient care in alignment with SAMGI and hospital standards

Schedule & Compensation

Compensation: $3,000 per shift

Annual Commitment: 104 shifts per year

Shift-based schedule with defined coverage expectations

Qualifications

MD or DO

Board Certified or Board Eligible in General Surgery

ATLS required (or ability to obtain)

Active California medical license or ability to obtain

Ability to obtain hospital privileges and credentialing

Practice Model

Employed or independent contractor arrangement through SAMGI (structure dependent on final agreement)
