Job summary

Sheffield-Sheffield Lake CSD is seeking a Van Driver for the 2026-2027 school year. The 2-hour AM route starts around 7:15 am and focuses on safe, efficient transportation of students.

Qualifications include a high school diploma, a clean Ohio driving record, drug screening, a written exam, and 5+ years driving experience. The role reports to Transportation Supervisor and includes insurance of student safety and compliance.

Qualifications

  • Must have a clean driving record and a valid Ohio driver’s license.
  • Must pass random drug/alcohol screening tests.
  • Must pass a state-required written exam and yearly physical examination.
  • Minimum of 5 years driving experience.
  • Additional qualifications as deemed appropriate by the Board.

Responsibilities

  • Report to work and perform a pre-trip inspection, including lights and safety equipment.
  • Perform a post-trip inspection and ensure all occupants have vacated the van.
  • Notify supervisor or designee of moving violations or accidents.
  • Notify supervisor or local police of accidents or violations while on duty.
  • Remain with students until instructed by police.
  • Complete all necessary accident reports.
  • Observe mandatory safety regulations for school transportation and report injuries.
  • Maintain the van interior in a clean condition.
  • Optionally exterior clean the van.
  • Report vandalism, mechanical issues, or other problems to supervisor.
  • Recognize job hazards and take safety precautions.
  • Report undisciplined students to building principals.
  • Pickup/drop off students at designated stops per schedule.
  • Enforce all state, local, and school policies.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

AM only; approximately 7:15 am - 9:15 am

Pay Range:

$16.21-$21.67

Qualifications:
  1. Possess a high school diploma or its equivalent.
  2. Possess a clean driving record and a valid Ohio driving license.
  3. Pass random drug/alcohol screening tests.
  4. Must pass a state-required written exam and yearly physical examination.
  5. Minimum of 5 years of driving experience.
  6. Additional qualifications as deemed appropriate and necessary under law by the Board. Such qualifications shall not be arbitrary or capricious.
Job Goal:

Provide safe and efficient transportation of students.

Specific Responsibilities:
  1. Report to work and perform a pre-trip inspection, including checking lights and safety equipment.
  2. Perform a post-trip inspection, ensuring all occupants have vacated the van.
  3. Notify the Transportation Supervisor or designee in case of a moving violation or accident in a personal vehicle off-duty.
  4. Notify the Transportation Supervisor or local police of an accident or moving violation while on duty.
  5. Remain with students until given instructions by local police.
  6. Complete all necessary accident reports.
  7. Observe all mandatory safety regulations for school transportation and immediately report accidents and injuries to the Transportation Supervisor or designee.
  8. Keep and maintain the assigned van interior in a clean condition.
  9. Optional exterior cleaning of the van.
  10. Notify the Transportation Supervisor or designee of vandalism, mechanical failure, or other issues.
  11. Recognize job hazards and take proper precautions to ensure the safety of oneself, fellow employees, and the public.
  12. Report undisciplined students to building principals or designee.
  13. Pick up and drop off students at designated stops and times per the Transportation Supervisor's schedule. Transport only authorized students.
  14. Enforce all state, local, and school policies.
  15. Perform other duties as assigned by the Transportation Supervisoror designee.
