Job summary

Aston Carter is seeking a Transportation Manager in Troy, MI to lead transportation and logistics strategy, analyzing approximately $30 million in annual spend and driving cost, service, and performance improvements. You will interact with senior leadership and cross-functional partners with significant autonomy and visibility.

The role includes developing strategies, managing bids, negotiating with carriers, monitoring KPIs, and supporting budgeting and intercompany movements.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
• 5+ years of transportation/logistics experience.
• Strong understanding of spend, pricing, and carrier management.
• Ability to analyze large data sets and identify trends and cost-saving opportunities.
• Experience with bids, RFQs, and carrier negotiations.
• Proficiency in transportation metrics and reporting.
• Advanced Excel skills.
• Ability to manage projects independently.
• Strong presentation and communication skills.
• Cross-functional collaboration across procurement, finance, and operations.

Responsibilities

• Develop and improve transportation strategies.
• Analyze ~$30M annual spend to identify cost-saving opportunities.
• Translate data into actionable findings for leadership.
• Lead freight savings initiatives with cross-functional teams.
• Manage transportation bids and RFQs with carriers.
• Lead negotiations for pricing and service levels.
• Evaluate performance of carriers, lanes, and routes.
• Track and report transportation KPIs and savings.
• Prepare reports for senior leadership on spend and risks.
• Manage relationships with logistics providers and brokers.
• Collaborate with manufacturing and planning to execute strategies.
• Support budgeting, accruals, and freight payment processes.
• Provide input for production quotes and intercompany movements.
• Monitor route changes and volumes for cost/service impact.
• Support domestic and international shipping and trade compliance.
