Job summary

First Student is seeking a Transportation Safety Manager in Amarillo, TX to oversee safety operations, guide staff, and lead full safety supervisory duties. The role reports to the location leadership and focuses on ensuring compliance, driver safety, and effective training programs.

The ideal candidate has strong communication skills, experience in safety programs, and proficiency with common office software.

Qualifications

• Minimum of one year of experience in an Assistant Location Safety Manager with 5 years operations experience or a degree with experience.
• Relevant safety certificates and OSHA 10-hour training preferred.
• Knowledge of FMCSA and/or FTA regulations and federal, state rules.
• Proficient with Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook; familiar with payroll systems.
• Experience with safety leadership and training programs.

Responsibilities

• Administers driver hiring and compliance processes.
• Directs location trainers and monitors training hours.
• Leads safety event investigations and reports.
• Maintains compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
• Plans and conducts monthly safety meetings.
• Assists employees on safety-related issues.
• Oversees driver performance using available technology.
• Develops hazard controls and reduces risk.
• Provides safety reports and action plans.
• Manages safety program costs within budget.
