Job summary

First Student is hiring a Transportation Safety Manager in Memphis, TN. The role focuses on safety oversight, training leadership, and compliance with federal and state regulations, including FMCSA/FTA guidance. Qualifications

• Minimum of one year of experience in an Assistant Location Safety Manager with 5 years operations experience or a combination of a college degree and years of experience.
• OSHA (U.S.) 10-hour training preferred.
• Knowledge of federal, provincial and state rules and regulations regarding safety and environmental issues along with FMCSA and or FTA regulations.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office products including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook; timekeeping/payroll systems preferred.

Responsibilities

• Administers driver hiring and compliance process, including interviewing and driver selection; drug/alcohol testing; fingerprint checks; DOT physicals; motor vehicle records checks; government forms as applicable.
• Provides direction and oversight to location trainers; monitors training hours; schedules and conducts recertification and enhancement training; revises training materials as required.
• Leads safety event investigations and prepares reports; determines preventability with location manager; provides post-safety event counseling; participates in Safety Committee meetings.
• Maintains compliance with federal, provincial, state, local regulations and SOPs; manages DMO system for qualification monitoring.
• Plans, schedules, conducts and documents monthly safety meetings; provides safety training to employees.
• Assist in oversight of driver performance using technology, road evaluations, telematics, etc.
• Develops hazard controls and programs; evaluates and communicates effectiveness.
