Job Summary

Feralloy is seeking a Transportation Safety & Fleet Manager to support transportation operations headquartered at the FerrouSouth Division in Iuka, Mississippi. This position serves as the company subject matter expert for steel coil and steel sheet load securement, transportation safety, compliance, driver safety training, and fleet maintenance coordination. The role is focused on safety leadership, training, auditing, compliance, and maintenance oversight and is not responsible for dispatching, customer service, load planning, or transportation scheduling.

Job Function
  • Serve as the company subject matter expert for steel coil, steel sheet, and flatbed cargo securement.
  • Develop and deliver classroom, field, and hands-on training programs related to cargo securement, transportation safety, and regulatory compliance.
  • Conduct load securement audits and spot inspections to ensure compliance with FMCSA regulations, including 49 CFR Part 393.
  • Coach drivers using a positive, professional, and development-focused leadership approach.
  • Lead new driver onboarding related to safety, securement, PPE requirements, and operational best practices.
  • Conduct safety observations, ride-alongs, and recurring safety meetings.
  • Investigate accidents, incidents, near misses, and cargo securement concerns and implement corrective actions.
  • Coordinate preventive maintenance, annual inspections, repairs, and equipment compliance activities with Penske, Ryder, and other vendors.
  • Monitor fleet availability, coordinate roadside assistance, and support equipment breakdown response efforts.
  • Maintain training, audit, safety, and compliance documentation.
  • Support DOT compliance initiatives and transportation safety programs across Feralloy transportation operations.
  • Travel approximately 25% to other company locations to conduct training, audits, and operational assessments.
  • Exercise authority to stop equipment operation when safety, compliance, cargo securement, or vehicle condition concerns present unacceptable risk.

Required Skills
  • Associate degree in Transportation, Logistics, Safety, Business, Industrial Technology, or related field; OR equivalent transportation industry experience.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in transportation, trucking, fleet operations, driver training, safety, or related leadership roles.
  • Strong knowledge of FMCSA regulations and cargo securement standards.
  • Demonstrated understanding of 49 CFR Part 393 and cargo securement requirements applicable to steel transportation.
  • Experience conducting training, audits, coaching, and safety observations.
  • Experience coordinating fleet maintenance activities and vendor relationships.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, organizational, and relationship-building skills.
  • Bachelor degree in Transportation, Logistics, Safety, Business, or related field.
  • Experience transporting and securing steel coil, steel sheet, plate, or other steel products.
  • Previous experience as a driver trainer, transportation safety manager, or compliance leader.
  • Class A CDL (current or previous).
  • Experience working with Penske, Ryder, or leased fleet programs.
  • Knowledge of OSHA and industrial workplace safety requirements.
