Job summary

HNTB is seeking a senior transportation planner to lead planning projects in New York City and surrounding counties. You will apply advanced data analysis, GIS, and traffic/pedestrian planning tools to develop conceptual alternatives, prepare plans and environmental documents, and mentor junior staff.

The role involves coordinating with clients, sub-consultants, and internal teams, guiding small to mid-size tasks, and contributing to scopes of work and proposals.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a related field with relevant professional experience.
• Experience with traffic and pedestrian simulation tools (e.g., Synchro, VISSIM, LEGION).
• Ability to perform planning analysis, develop recommendations, and produce plans/reports.

Responsibilities

• Lead internal and external coordination with project team members.
• Develop and maintain client meetings and interactions.
• Conduct research on planning issues, formulate recommendations.
• Develop conceptual planning alternatives for urban and transportation projects.
• Lead production of plans, studies, reports, and environmental documents.
• Coordinate with clients, sub-consultants, and in-house staff on tasks.
• Mentor junior staff and assist in scope/fee development and responses to RFPs.

Education

Bachelor's Degree in Urban Planning, Geography, Engineering, or related field
