Job summary

HNTB’s Transportation Planning Practice in New York seeks a skilled professional to serve as Task Lead on major planning projects, including bike, ped, rail, bus and freight mobility improvements in NYC. You will apply advanced data analysis, planning judgment, and a broad toolkit to deliver impactful solutions from concept to completion.

The ideal candidate has 6+ years in urban/transportation planning, familiarity with GIS and traffic modeling, and the ability to communicate findings clearly

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Urban Planning, Geography, Engineering, or related field with 5–6 years of experience.
• Experience with traffic and pedestrian simulation tools (e.g., Synchro, VISSIM, LEGION).
• Professional credentials such as PE, AICP, PTP, CEP, LEED AP are preferred.

Responsibilities

• Lead internal and external coordination with project team members.
• Develop and maintain client meetings and interactions.
• Conduct research on planning issues and formulate recommendations.
• Develop conceptual planning alternatives for urban and transportation projects.
• Lead production of technical plans, studies, reports, and environmental documents.
• Coordinate with clients, sub-consultants, and in-house staff to complete tasks.
• Mentor junior staff and assist in scopes of work and proposals.
• Write major sections of plans and lead data analysis and reporting.
