Job summary

AtkinsRéalis USA Inc. is seeking a Transportation Planning Intern for our Orlando, FL office to perform analytical tasks and field reviews related to traffic studies and safety analyses.

The role involves assisting with data collection, data management, and documentation for governmental approvals, as well as supporting signal retiming and capacity analyses across road networks.

Qualifications

• 60 hours toward civil engineering degree from ABET-accredited program by start of Summer 2027.
• Interest in Traffic Operations, Safety, or Planning; experience with HCM, Synchro, HCS+, or VISSIM preferred.

Responsibilities

• Collect traffic and crash data; manage data.
• Conduct field reviews of study areas (pedestrian/bicycle demand, signal operations, traffic circulation).
• Assist with urban and corridor planning studies and governmental documentation; support signal retiming and traffic impact studies.
• Analyze traffic operations and capacity for intersections, corridors and regional networks; develop design alternatives to improve safety and operations.

Job Description Overview

AtkinsRéalis is seeking a Transportation Planning Intern to join our Orlando, FL office.

Your Role

Perform analytical and investigative tasks including traffic and crash data collection and data management; Perform field review of project study areas, such as pedestrian and bicycle demand/use studies, signal operations reviews, and traffic circulation studies Assist with the technical tasks involved in urban and corridor planning studies and the documentation associated with governmental acceptance; Assist with signal retiming, traffic impact studies, corridor planning studies, and highway safety studies, and Perform traffic operations/engineering and capacity analysis on roadway networks for intersections, corridors, and regional networks Assist with design alternatives for improving safety and operations of intersections, corridors, and networks.

About You

EXPERIENCE: Junior/Senior or Post‑Graduate Students

EDUCATION: Must have completed 60 hours towards a civil engineering degree from an ABET accredited program by the start of the internship (Summer 2027).

Special Skills

Interests in Traffic Operations, Safety, or Planning. Experience with HCM, Synchro, HCS+, or VISSIM preferred.
