Job summary

Kimley-Horn in Austin, TX is seeking planning students to join our Transportation team. This is not a remote position and offers hands-on experience with large datasets, GIS tools, and Python to support scenario planning.

You will help build automated workflows, prepare visuals, and conduct spatial analyses with ArcGIS to evaluate multimodal networks. Enrolled in an accredited Planning degree (Bachelors or Masters) in City/Regional Planning, Urban Planning, Transportation Planning or CS is

Qualifications

• Pursuing a Planning degree from an accredited program.
• Majors include City/Regional Planning, Urban Planning, Transportation Planning, or Computer Science.
• Experience with GIS or Python is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Work with large transportation datasets to perform technical analysis using Python, GIS and other related tools.
• Assist in building and maintaining Python-based analytical tools and automated workflows that support scenario planning and performance-based evaluation.
• Prepare visuals, maps, charts and storytelling graphics that communicate technical findings to non-technical audiences.
• Conduct spatial analysis and mapping in ArcGIS to evaluate multimodal networks, travel markets, and land use conditions.
• Apply strong critical-thinking skills to evaluate data limitations, identify meaningful insights, and propose alternative approaches when needed.
• Support team leadership by helping coordinate tasks, maintaining project organization, and ensuring high quality deliverables.
