Job summary

Kimley-Horn is seeking Planning students to join our Oakland, California office on the Transportation team for Summer 2027. This is not a remote position, and interns will support pre-construction planning, permitting, and analysis for multiple projects.

Qualified candidates are pursuing a Planning degree with majors in City and Regional Planning, Urban Planning, or Transportation Planning. The role provides an hourly rate of $33.00–$34.00 per hour.

Qualifications

• In progress toward a Planning degree (Bachelors or Masters).
• Majors: City and Regional Planning, Urban Planning, Transportation Planning.

• Solve complex problems, assist project managers, and collaborate across disciplines to realize client visions.

Overview

Responsibilities

• Contribute to the pre-construction planning, modification, permitting, and analysis for multiple projects ranging in size and scope.
• Solve complex problems, assist project managers, and collaborate across disciplines to produce our clients' visions for the future built environment.
• Develop familiarity with the federal, state, and local regulations, as well as Kimley-Horn's and our client's practices, procedures, and standards.
• Evaluate development proposals to identify compliance with zoning regulations.
• Prepare planning and land use studies.
• Coordinate with various municipal and state agencies.

Qualifications

• In the process of receiving a Planning Degree (Bachelors or Masters) from an accredited program in of the following majors:
  • City and Regional Planning
  • Urban Planning
  • Transportation Planning

Hourly Rate: $33.00/hr - $34.00/hr
